Description

A budget-friendly, family comfort food classic — Hobo Casserole combines ground beef, potatoes, and cheese into a hearty baked dinner.


Ingredients

1 lb (450 g) ground beef

4–5 medium potatoes, thinly sliced (¼ inch / 6 mm)

1 medium onion, chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tbsp olive oil

1 tsp Italian seasoning

½ tsp paprika

Salt & black pepper, to taste

1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese

½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

½ cup beef broth

¼ cup milk (optional)


Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).

2. Slice potatoes thinly and set aside.

3. Heat olive oil in skillet, add onion and garlic, sauté until fragrant.

4. Add ground beef, season, and cook until browned.

5. Layer half potatoes, half beef, half cheddar in a greased baking dish.

6. Repeat with remaining ingredients.

7. Pour beef broth and milk evenly over top.

8. Cover with foil and bake 35–40 minutes.

9. Remove foil, add Parmesan, and bake 10 more minutes until bubbly.

10. Cool 5–10 minutes before serving.

Notes

You can substitute ground turkey for beef or add vegetables like carrots and peas for more color and nutrition.
